Hi Everyone! Here's What’s Happening This Week!

There is a grizzly working the Skoki trails that has decided people are not something to avoid. Parks Canada's warning covers Skoki Lodge, Hidden Lake, Baker Lake and Deception Pass: travel in groups of four or more and carry bear spray.

Bears are the immediate problem. The slower one is the ground itself, with a researcher warning that melting glaciers and thawing permafrost are producing new hazards in Canada's mountains, from the Cougar Creek debris floods to the 2012 slide at Mount Edith Cavell.

For a weekend with less to think about, the Maligne Valley trip runs the wildlife route with a stop at Medicine Lake and a 90-minute cruise to Spirit Island, and someone else does the driving.

If you are heading out on foot instead, download your maps before you go. Coverage is patchy on most trails around here, and AllTrails Plus is half price until September 8.

🏔️ Melting Peaks Bring New Hazards. Melting glaciers and thawing permafrost are creating new hazards in Canada's mountains, a researcher says after Nepal's deadly glacier collapse, pointing to Cougar Creek debris floods and the 2012 slide at Mount Edith Cavell.

🎟️ Last Free Weekend in the Parks. The Canada Strong Pass waives park admission until September 7, covering Banff, Jasper, Yoho and Kootenay. After that, the gate booths start charging again.

Half-Price Simulators for a Day. CanGOLF marks five years in Canmore on Sunday, September 20, with simulators at $30 an hour from noon to 10 p.m., and the food menu rolled back to 2021 prices.

🐻 Bold Grizzly on Skoki Trails. Parks Canada has issued a bear warning for Skoki Lodge, Hidden Lake, Baker Lake and Deception Pass. The bear is approaching people closely. Travel in groups of four or more and carry bear spray.

🏨 Mount Robson Inn Rebuilds as Robson. The Jasper hotel lost in the 2024 wildfire is being rebuilt under a new name, with jagged rooflines echoing the peaks. Construction started this year; doors open in summer 2027.

🌧️ The wetter, cooler pattern isn't loosening its grip anytime soon - Friday brings a 60% chance of showers at a cool 15°C, Saturday holds that same soggy pattern at 14°C, and Sunday settles into steadier periods of rain, still around 15°C. Clearer skies are a ways off yet, so keep the rain gear close for the weekend. Full Forecast Here
