Hi Everyone! Here's What’s Happening This Week!

Book the Moraine Lake shuttle now. The lake closes for the season within the month, and reservations are going quickly, so the window for a straightforward visit is narrowing by the day. If the shuttle is just too complicated, we have alternatives here.

A coalition of seven health and environmental groups has asked Ottawa to ban smoking and vaping in national parks by 2028, citing wildfire risk. A 2025 fire near Vermilion Lakes, suspected to be cigarette-caused, is doing a lot of the work in their argument.

Alberta is also moving ahead with contraception for its wild horses. Health Canada has authorised research into a birth control vaccine, with the Ghost River and Elbow zones among those judged unsustainable. The province classifies the horses as strays, not wildlife, a distinction that matters more than it sounds.

For visitors trying to fit Lake Louise and Moraine Lake into a single day, there is a full-day tour that adds Emerald Lake, Natural Bridge and Johnston Canyon and handles the shuttles, parking and timing so you do not have to.

Ask Jill from What’s on Banff

Too many options, not enough time to sort through them all. I can help you figure out what actually matters for your trip.

Lake Louise and Moraine Lake take more planning than most visitors expect. This full-day tour keeps it simple, linking them with Emerald Lake, Natural Bridge and Johnston Canyon, so you can focus on the stops rather than the shuttles, parking and timing.

πŸ”οΈ Fresh from the Rockies

⏳ Moraine Lake's Season Is Almost Over. Moraine Lake closes for the season within the month, and shuttle reservations are already filling up fast. Find out how to get there before access disappears for winter.

🚭 Banff National Park Could Ban Smoking. Seven health and environmental groups are urging Ottawa to ban smoking and vaping in national parks by 2028, citing wildfire risk. A 2025 fire near Banff's Vermilion Lakes was suspected to be cigarette-caused.

πŸ’Ό Banff And Canmore Host Job Fairs. The Job Resource Centre's winter job fairs run from 1 to 3:30 pm - Banff at the Moose Hotel on September 15, Canmore at the Malcolm Hotel on September 22.

🐴 Alberta To Trial Wild Horse Contraception. Health Canada has authorised research into a birth control vaccine for feral horses, with the Ghost River and Elbow zones among those deemed unsustainable. Alberta classifies the animals as strays, not wildlife.

πŸŽ‰ Buffalo Nations Cultural Day, September 19. The free, full-day Buffalo Nations Cultural Day brings Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and artists together along the Bow River and on the museum's historic grounds. Together, they share the culture and history of the Treaty 7 Nations. Everyone is welcome.

🚲 Caribou Street Gets Artsy Bike Racks. Blacksmith Paul Reimer's new bike racks double as public art on the newly renewed Caribou Street. Banff's mayor says the racks - funded by Canada House Gallery - get used up as fast as they're installed.

β˜€οΈ A wet, cold dip lands midweek before sunshine takes back over - Sunday brings a mix of sun and cloud with a chance of showers at 13Β°C; Monday stays similar at 14Β°C, before Tuesday plunges into cold rain and just 9Β°C. That chill breaks fast though, with sunny 16Β°C skies right behind it. Full Forecast Here
