Hi Everyone! Here's Whatβs Happening This Week!
Somewhere on the Icefields Parkway this week, six metres of snow landed on 250 metres of road, and nobody was particularly surprised. Parks Canada triggered the controlled avalanche on the Mount Hector slide path as part of scheduled control work - the deposit was a size 4, and it's the second time this season Mt Hector has reached the highway. A first in Parks Canada's records. Check Alberta511 before travelling 93N.
Less routine: a grizzly bear was found dead near Honey Coulee, south of Calgary, with a gunshot wound. Alberta Fish and Wildlife is investigating. Grizzly hunting has been banned in Alberta since 2006. Tips go to Report A Poacher.
The bald eagles are back at Medicine Lake, which is good news delivered with a $25,000 caveat - Parks Canada has closed a 200-metre radius around the nest until further notice. Worth checking the boundary before heading to Maligne Lake Road.
If all of this has you thinking a hotel room and a hot tub sounds better than another day on the road, The Malcolm Hotel in Canmore is worth a look - outdoor heated pool, views of the Three Sisters, and a short walk from downtown.
Everything else is below.
There is plenty happening this week. Dive into the event listings below, or check out the detailed events page on our website.

If you like the idea of a luxury mountain hotel but donβt love the prices that often come with staying in Banff, The Malcolm Hotel in Canmore is well worth considering. It sits in the Spring Creek area just a short walk from downtown, so youβre close to Canmoreβs restaurants, shops, and galleries while still being an easy drive from Banff National Park.
One of the most popular features is the outdoor heated pool and hot tubs overlooking the Three Sisters Peaks. After a day hiking, sightseeing, or skiing in the Bow Valley, itβs a great place to unwind while taking in one of Canmoreβs best mountain views.

π§ Soak, Steam & Surrender: The Bow Valley's Best Spa Hotels
Finding true relaxation in the Rockies is surprisingly difficult when half the continent has had the same idea, and the car park at every trailhead looks like a motorway services. These three hotels take the edge off - with spas you can actually reach without a shuttle odyssey, and wellness amenities that justify the room rate.
β°οΈ Rimrock Banff, Emblems Collection - Currently closed for a full renovation and reopening July 2026 as a brand-new thermal wellness destination on Sulphur Mountain, complete with an infinity pool, outdoor sauna, and mountain-view steam facilities. Worth a forward booking now - early reservations are offering up to 25% off summer stays, and this will be the most talked-about spa opening in the Rockies this year. Read The Reviews And Book
πΏ Everwild Canmore - Nordic Spa & Hotel - Twenty-five minutes from Banff town centre, but the trade-off is 40,000 square feet of Nordic thermal circuits, outdoor pools facing the Three Sisters, and guided sauna rituals that bear no resemblance to sitting in a box at your local leisure centre. Book a Stay & Spa package directly - third-party sites don't include spa access, and you'll want it included. Read The Reviews And Book
π¦ Banff Caribou Lodge & Spa - Right on Banff Avenue, which means you walk to dinner rather than waiting for a shuttle that may or may not arrive. The Red Earth Spa is a proper full-service operation - massages, facials, the lot - and the hot pool is genuinely useful after a day on the hill. Free underground parking and complimentary ROAM bus passes mean you can leave the car below and forget about it entirely. Read The Reviews And Book

Yesterdayβs Question: Which Banff-area ski resort is located closest to the town of Banff?
β Answer: 3) Mount Norquay - 61% Correct
Banff has several ski areas to choose from, with options for all levels. See how they compare in our Banff Ski Resorts Guide.
Moraine Lake and Lake Louise are two of the most popular Banff destinations, but Moraine Lake has no private vehicle access, and parking at Lake Louise is extremely limited. This half-day tour removes those hurdles by including round-trip transport from Banff and handling access for you.
