Hi Everyone! Here's Whatβs Happening This Week!
The lights on Sulphur Mountain are going out for good. Nightrise, the after-dark gondola experience built with the Stoney Nakoda Nation, featuring light installations and Indigenous storytelling, runs only until 29 March. This is the last season it will ever run. If it has been on your list, the list is about to expire.
Elsewhere this week, the Fairmont Banff Springs has announced what can only be described as a full Easter programme. Egg hunts, afternoon tea, chocolate tastings, and a pop-up bar called The Hidden Burrow.
The Summer Job Fair arrives on 26 March at Banff Park Lodge, which means the Bow Valley hiring season is officially underway.
And if you have been meaning to get out on an e-bike, the Banff E-Bike and Johnston Canyon tour covers 26 kilometres through Vermilion Lakes before swapping wheels for boots at the canyon.
There is plenty happening this week. Dive into the event listings below, or check out the detailed events page on our website.

This tour brings together a bike ride, a canyon walk, and a scenic drive into one easy half-day. The e-bikes make it possible to enjoy the views without it feeling like a workout. Youβll ride at a relaxed pace through places such as Vermilion Lakes and along the Bow Valley Parkway.
At Johnston Canyon, the focus shifts from riding to walking. The bikes are left behind, and you follow the trail on foot to the Lower Falls with time to enjoy the canyon scenery. You then return to Banff via shuttle.

π§οΈ Rain moves in as the week warms up.
Sunday stays cold at -1Β°C with cloudy skies. Monday reaches 8Β°C with a chance of flurries clearing to showers overnight. Tuesday brings persistent rain and a high of 11Β°C. Full forecast here.
π Nightrise on Sulphur Mountain ends for good this March. The after-dark gondola experience - light installations and Indigenous storytelling created with the Stoney Nakoda Nation - runs until 29 March. This is the final season. Book ahead; it sells out.
π° The Fairmont is doing Easter properly this year. Egg hunts, brunch, afternoon tea, chocolate tastings, and a pop-up bar called The Hidden Burrow - plus Bunnyville, which is apparently a thing. Full schedule at the link.
πΏ Norquay turns 100 with a full day on the hill. On 28 March, the centennial celebration includes guided tours with Ken Read and the Crazy Canucks, the 58th Bruno Engler race, live music, and free tastings from six local breweries. A century deserves more than cake.
πΌ The summer hiring rush starts on 26 March at Banff Park Lodge. Bow Valley employers will be recruiting at the 2026 Summer Job Fair, 1-3:30 PM, 201 Lynx St. Show up with a plan.
π A 5K or 10K trail run timed around the alpenglow in Canmore. The Canmore Sunset Run is at Millennium Park on 16 May - start is timed so the peaks turn pink mid-run. There's a Crave cupcake at the finish.
π§ Crescent Falls has new viewing platforms and stricter access rules. The area above and below the falls is now a restricted zone - park at the upper lot and walk the 800-metre moderate-to-expert trail in. Plan before you go.
π Pride and ski season collide at Panorama on 20 March. Twilight Ski & Slay kicks off the Pride & Ski Festival with a drag race, DJ aprΓ¨s at The Beach, and a dance night to follow.

βYour Questions Answered
π₯Ύ Is Johnston Canyon a good hike for first-time visitors to Banff? Yes - it is one of the most accessible and rewarding trails with options to suit all ages and fitness levels.
πΎ Can you spot a lynx in Banff? Rarely - they're solitary, move at dawn or dusk, and blend into forests. But there was a recent sighting at Lake Louise.
π§ Is Takakkaw Falls worth a detour from Banff? Absolutely. It is one of Canada's most dramatic waterfalls, and the trail is flat, short, and suitable for all.
π£Activities You Might Enjoy
π§ Ice Explorer and Glacier Skywalk - Ride a six-wheeled giant onto the Athabasca Glacier, step out onto ancient ice, then cross a glass-bottomed walkway suspended 280 metres above the Sunwapta Valley. A genuinely jaw-dropping three hours.
π΄ Banff E-Bike and Johnston Canyon Walk - Pedal 26km past Vermilion Lakes and along the Bow Valley Parkway, then swap the bike for boots to hike into Johnston Canyon's dramatic limestone gorge. A brilliant half-day out with a shuttle back to town.
π» Banff Ghost Walk - After dark, ditch the daytime sightseeing and let a lantern-carrying guide lead you through Banff's shadier past - unsolved crimes, restless hotel guests, and railway-era tales you won't find on any tourist map.
π Waterslides and mountains: hotels that actually deliver both
Keeping children entertained between trail walks and lift queues is, frankly, an exhausting business. These three hotels solve the problem by bringing the entertainment indoors - no shuttle required.
πΏ Douglas Fir Resort, Banff - Two indoor waterslides mean the children are occupied regardless of what the weather is doing, which in Banff is rarely predictable. The condo-style suites with wood-burning fireplaces are genuinely useful after a full day on the mountain, and being within walking distance of Banff Avenue means you can sidestep the car park situation entirely. ποΈ Grande Rockies Resort, Canmore - Twenty minutes from Banff and considerably less hectic for it, this property runs a three-storey waterslide alongside a separate splash area for younger ones and hot tub access for the adults who deserve it. Canmore's restaurant strip is walkable, which matters when you have tired children and no appetite for driving. Read The Reviews And Book
π¦ Pocaterra Inn, Canmore - The complimentary breakfast is the sort of practical detail that sounds minor until you are trying to feed a family of four before a full day out. The waterslide is smaller than its neighbour down the road, but the price point reflects that honestly, and the pet policy means the dog does not have to sit this one out. Read The Reviews And Book
ποΈ Quiz
When you see a "No Stopping" zone on the Bow Valley Parkway, what is the most common reason?
Yesterdayβs Question: What is the main reason the water level in Lake Minnewanka is higher today than it was 150 years ago?
β Answer: 2) The construction of a hydroelectric dam - 35% Correct
The construction of a hydroelectric dam changed the lakeβs water level and shape. See what to expect when visiting in our Lake Minnewanka Guide.
Lake Louise is one of the must-see destinations in Banff National Park, but access isnβt easy. Staying at the Chateau Lake Louise is one of the most straightforward ways to experience Lake Louise without the usual challenges. The hotel is also the starting point for many of the areaβs best-known hikes, and a practical base for visiting Moraine Lake.
