Hi Everyone! Here's Whatβs Happening This Week!
The high peaks are firmly back in winter's grip, with 84 cm of fresh powder falling at Lake Louise in just one week. Saturday's forecast remains harsh with a wind chill of -18Β°C, though conditions should clear for a sunny Sunday.
In regional news, the Y2Y region has officially reached 204 wildlife crossings, a project that continues to facilitate safe passage for the valley's four-legged residents. These structures are proven lifesavers, with local crossings recording a quarter-million passages since they were first introduced.
Looking ahead, the Canmore Nordic Centre will host Bear Day on 18 April. This free event is an excellent opportunity to engage with Alberta Parks staff and watch safety demonstrations as the bears move back onto the landscape.
The creekside cabins at Baker Creek remain a local favourite, offering a retreat from the weekend crowds. Located right against a glacier-fed stream near the Bow Valley Parkway, it is a great base for exploring the area.
There is plenty happening this week. Dive into the event listings below, or check out the detailed events page on our website.

Our favourite thing about Baker Creek is the setting. The cabins sit beside a clear glacier-fed stream, and many are just a few steps from the water. You can wake up to the sound of the creek and step outside into the forest surrounded by mountains.
Itβs also about a 10-minute drive from Lake Louise along the Bow Valley Parkway. This makes it a convenient base if youβre hoping to get to the lake early before the crowds build.
Evenings are peaceful here, with the creek running through the property and firepits where guests often sit and relax.

βοΈ Snow on Saturday, then a sharp clear-up on Sunday. Saturday brings light snow and a high of -9Β°C with wind chill near -18Β°C. Sunday turns sunny, reaching -2Β°C. Monday warms to 7Β°C with a chance of flurries or rain. Full forecast here.
β·οΈ Lake Louise picked up 84 cm of snow in the past seven days. Twenty-nine of those centimetres fell in the last 48 hours. The Glacier Express is running until 5 pm tomorrow. Spring, apparently, has been postponed.
πΊ The Y2Y region has passed 200 wildlife crossing structures. The Rock Creek underpass on Highway 3 in the Crowsnest Pass brought the total to 204. Banff's crossings alone have recorded more than 250,000 safe animal passages over three decades. It took 17 years to build the latest one.
π» Free Bear Day event at Canmore Nordic Centre on 18 April. Alberta Parks is hosting talks, crafts and safety demonstrations to welcome bears back to the landscape as they emerge from their dens.
π€ A Dolly Parton tribute is running in Canmore through March. April Cook and Phill Nugent perform hits including "Jolene" and "9 to 5" at the 51-seat Carter-Ryan Theatre on Main Street. Tickets and dates here.
π₯ Le fournil Bakery in Canmore is closing on 23 March. Owner Pascale Tetreault announced the closure, citing personal circumstances. Reduced-price retail items are available in person until the final day. Full announcement here. Fourteen years of croissants. Just like that.
π Banff's Saffron Indian Bistro is open again after renovation. The Wolf Street spot reopened on 14 March with a freshened interior. The menu remains unchanged, which is the right call.

ποΈ Banff B&Bs That Actually Give You Your Own Bathroom
Sharing a bathroom with strangers is a charming concept that loses its appeal somewhere around 6:30 am when someone's blow-drying their hair outside your door. These three Banff bed and breakfasts each offer private ensuite bathrooms, breakfast, and the kind of personal service that a 400-room hotel simply cannot replicate.
π« Buffaloberry Bed & Breakfast - A small, well-run property where every room has its own ensuite - no queuing, no negotiating over shelf space.
