Hi Everyone! Here's Whatโs Happening This Week!
Parks Canada has flagged aggressive coyote behaviour on Bow Falls Trail, Glen Avenue, and Spray Avenue - keep dogs on a short leash and pay attention. These aren't passing visitors; in 2022, a pair denned under a backyard shed in the townsite and produced seven pups.
Spray Lakes Road is closed for the time being. A rockslide from the East End of Rundle has come down between Grassi Lakes and Goat Creek, leaving boulders waist-deep on the road with no reopening date confirmed.
On the weather front, showers are expected through parts of the week. That has a silver lining - Moraine Lake and Johnston Canyon are noticeably quieter when it rains, and there are indoor and covered options around if you need them.
For those wanting to be near the canyon without the parking headache, Johnston Canyon Lodge sits right at the trailhead. You can be in the canyon before the crowds arrive, or simply wait until they've left.

Download Your Apps Before You Go. Cell service is patchy across much of the Rockies, so download before you leave. Get AllTrails and save any trails offline. GuideAlong is also worth grabbing - it's an audio guide that narrates your drive and works completely offline.

Visiting the most famous lakes in the Rockies involves significant logistical planning, particularly with the restricted access to Moraine Lake and limited parking at Lake Louise. This tour simplifies the process by handling all transportation and shuttle coordination for you.
You can visit both iconic lakes as well as Johnston Canyon, Emerald Lake, and the Natural Bridge in Yoho National Park. The route is planned to make the most of the day, with time to walk lakeshore trails, take photos, and enjoy a relaxed lunch stop in Lake Louise Village.
If youโre short on time and prefer not to deal with the hassle of coordinating multiple locations, this could be a great option.

๐ง๏ธ Rain Is When Banff Gets Quiet. Crowds at Moraine Lake and Johnston Canyon thin out fast when the sky turns grey, and there's plenty to fill the gap. What to do on a rainy day in Banff, from trail options to Elevation Place in Canmore.
๐ชจ Rockslide Closes Spray Lakes Road. A rockslide from the East End of Rundle has buried the road between Grassi Lakes and Goat Creek, with no reopening date set. A witness described boulders sitting waist-deep on the road.
๐บ Coyote Warning for Banff Townsite Streets. Parks Canada has flagged aggressive coyote behaviour on Bow Falls Trail, Glen Avenue, and Spray Avenue this season. Dogs must be kept on a short leash. In 2022, a pair denned under a backyard shed and produced seven pups.
๐ฒ 22,000 Trees Planted in Jasper Recovery. Parks Canada planted Douglas-fir and whitebark pine across 33,000 hectares of Jasper wildfire burn area last year, focusing on slopes and high-traffic zones where invasive plants spread easily. Full forest recovery, Parks Canada notes, can take hundreds of years.
๐ก Your Ski Pass Works This Summer Too. Lake Louise full and spring pass holders get free sightseeing gondola rides all summer, plus buddy passes with 20% off for up to four friends per day. Plus+ Card holders get 50% off gondola rides.

๐ฃActivities You Might Enjoy
๐ Moraine Lake Sunrise/Sunset - Skip the Parks Canada shuttle faff and take a small-group tour direct from Banff or Canmore. You're there for the Rockpile at golden hour - either pre-dawn with headlamps and blankets, or the sunset-to-stargazing version. Layers are non-negotiable; it's cold up there even in July.
๐ป Banff Ghost Walk - A 100-minute evening walk through the darker corners of Banff's history - railway-era crimes, unsolved mysteries, and the Fairmont's more permanent guests. It's grounded in local archives rather than cheap jump-scares, which makes it genuinely good. Book the Banff Ghost Walk and wear proper footwear; some sections are unlit.
๐ฃ Kananaskis River Rafting - Class II and III rapids on a dam-regulated river, which means consistent water levels and a reliable afternoon out. The Kananaskis rafting trip runs about four hours including kit-out and a shuttle to the put-in.

๐ Three Hotels Where the Price Tag Actually Makes Sense
Spending serious money on accommodation in Banff is easy. Spending it wisely is harder. These three properties earn their rates in different ways - here's what you're actually getting.
โจ Rimrock Banff, Emblems Collection - Reopening from 1st July 2026 as the first North American property in Accor's Emblems Collection, the newly reimagined Rimrock sits high on Sulphur Mountain above town, deliberately apart from the crowds below. The 320 redesigned rooms all face the mountains. The wellness offering - infinity pool, saunas, glacial plunges, hydrothermal circuit, and suspended meditation rooms - is genuinely unlike anything else in the Rockies. Book early if you're planning a late-summer trip. Read The Reviews And Book
๐ฐ Fairmont Banff Springs - 724 rooms, 12 restaurants and bars, a 27-treatment-room spa, indoor and outdoor pools, a bowling alley, tennis courts, a championship golf course, and a 5-pin bowling lane that somehow feels entirely appropriate. Built in 1888 as a Scottish baronial castle and a National Historic Site, it's the kind of place where the building itself does a lot of the work. Walking distance from town, which counts for a lot when Banff traffic is doing its thing. Read The Reviews And Book
๐ Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise - The practical argument for staying here is simple: you're on the lakeshore, so you skip the parking scramble entirely. The wider argument is that BASIN Glacial Waters - the resort's new thermal bathing facility drawing on a direct glacial water source - opened in September 2025 and is currently exclusive to hotel guests. Finnish saunas, a Kneipp Walk, an outdoor infinity pool, and a cold plunge are all part of it. Eight dining options mean you can reasonably avoid getting in a car for days. Read The Reviews And Book
๐๏ธ Quiz
The nickname โThe Bossโ in Banff refers to which of the following?
Yesterdayโs Question: Which lake is shown in this photo, known for its bright blue colour and short hike above Canmore?
โ Answer: 1) Grassi Lakes - 61% Correct
Grassi Lakes are known for their bright blue colour and a short, rewarding hike above Canmore. Plan your visit with our Grassi Lakes hike guide.
Staying here puts you right at the start of the Johnston Canyon trail, so you can head into the canyon before the crowds arrive, or enjoy it later once the tour buses have gone. It also avoids the challenge of finding parking, which often fills early during busy periods.
