Hi Everyone! Here's What’s Happening This Week!

The Lake Agnes Tea House opened this week - no road, no parking lot, no shortcut. You get there by walking 3.5 km up from Lake Louise, and that's the only option. It's one of the more reliably satisfying things you can do in the park, and the season is short enough that early June is a reasonable time to go.

Cochrane is quietly becoming the place people stay when Banff is full - which, increasingly, it is. International overnight visits to the town are up 40-50% since 2023, with visitors using it as a launching pad for Rockies day trips. If you're planning a trip and finding accommodation options thin, it's worth knowing the logistics work better than you might expect.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is offering lift tickets by donation on June 21 for residents across the region - Golden, Canmore, Field, Revelstoke, and communities in between - with proceeds going to the Golden Family Centre and the Golden Cycling Club. Proof of residency required.

If you need a base in Banff itself, Peaks Hotel and Suites sits less than a minute from Banff Avenue and consistently ranks among the best-reviewed properties in town. Underground parking, contact-free check-in, and pool access at Banff Park Lodge across the street.

🏔️ Got questions about planning your Rockies trip?

Every week, readers email us asking where to stay, what to prioritise, and how to make the most of their time here. We've put together a one-to-one consultation service so we can answer those questions properly - tailored to your trip, not a generic list.

When travellers on TripAdvisor consistently rank a hotel among the top places to stay in Banff, it’s usually worth a closer look. In this case, a big part of the appeal is location. Peaks Hotel & Suites is less than a minute from Banff Avenue, so you’re right in the centre of town, with restaurants, cafés, and shops all within easy walking distance.

Despite being so central, the hotel itself feels calm. You can step straight out into town, then come back to somewhere that feels quiet and relaxed at the end of the day. Everything is set up to keep your stay simple, from contact-free check-in and phone access to your room to underground parking if you’re driving. You also have access to the pool, hot tub, and steam room at Banff Park Lodge just across the street.

🌊 Hot Water, Cold Mountains: Banff Hotels With Pools Worth Using

Finding a hotel pool in a mountain town sounds simple until you realise most options are a shared hot tub with a view of a car park. These three properties actually deliver on the water front, each in quite different ways.

🎢 Douglas Fir Resort and Chalets - The one genuinely family-focused property on this list, and it earns that reputation through the indoor waterpark - two waterslides, a pool, wading pool, hot tub, sauna, and steam room, all free for guests. It sits on Tunnel Mountain Road, about a 20-minute walk or a short bus ride from downtown, and the condo-style units come with full kitchens and wood-burning fireplaces. Practical, spacious, and significantly better value than anything closer to Banff Avenue. Read The Reviews And Book

🛶 Hotel Canoe and Suites - On the quieter uptown stretch of Banff Avenue - close enough to walk to town, far enough from the worst of the crowds. Rooftop hot pools and a sauna sit alongside a restaurant, cafe, and the kind of consistently positive staff reviews that suggest they're actually well-managed rather than just lucky. Free parking and complimentary ROAM bus passes are included. Rooms are spacious with balconies, and the condo-style options have kitchenettes for those not relying on restaurant meals every night. 🌋 Otter Hotel - The newest of the three and the most hotel-feeling of the bunch, positioned slightly above and away from the busiest part of Banff Avenue. The rooftop hot pools face Cascade Mountain and are reserved for guests only - no day visitors cluttering things up. Free underground heated parking (with EV charging) and complimentary ROAM bus passes mean parking anxieties can be set aside on arrival. Sauna and fire pits round out the outdoor facilities, and the on-site restaurant, Good Folk, handles breakfast and dinner without asking you to go anywhere. Read The Reviews And Book
