Hi Everyone! Here's Whatβs Happening This Week!
The Town of Banff has issued its August long weekend advice, and it is the same advice as last year: take the shuttle, arrive before the crowds, or arrive after them. Nothing about the road network has changed, so neither has the guidance.
It has been a hard week in the mountains. A woman in her twenties died after a fall near Marvel Peak on Tuesday, and weather held up the recovery until Wednesday. A 65-year-old Calgary man died on Mount Temple on Saturday.
If you would rather not spend the weekend circling a parking lot, a four-hour e-bike ride takes in Vermilion Lakes and the Bow Valley Parkway, adds the walk to Johnston Canyon's Lower Falls, and puts you on a shuttle back to town. No car involved at any point.
Canmore's newest hotel has a Nordic spa attached, with hot and cold pools, saunas and steam rooms, which is a reasonable way to end a day.

Combine two very different Banff experiences. A relaxed e-bike ride through Vermilion Lakes and along the Bow Valley Parkway, then stretch your legs on the walk to Johnston Canyon's Lower Falls. Afterwards, simply hop on the shuttle back to Banff.

Moraine Lake, Banff National Park
π Banff Braces for Long Weekend. The town is urging visitors to take shuttles or arrive early or late to dodge August long weekend congestion. The same advice as every year, for the same reason as every year.
ποΈ Second Hiker Death in a Week. A woman in her twenties died after falling near Marvel Peak on Tuesday. Recovery was delayed until Wednesday by weather. A 65-year-old Calgary man died on Mount Temple on Saturday.
π₯ Fire Bans Across Alberta Parks. Drying conditions have put multiple fire bans in effect in provincial parks. Check signage on site before lighting anything - restrictions vary by location and can change between now and your visit.
π Kananaskis Waterways Still Altered. Summer flooding has left debris, log jams and gravel deposits in places they normally aren't. Obey posted closures, and wear a lifejacket near water regardless of how well you swim.
π§ Canyoning Comes to Golden. Guided canyoning tours have launched in Golden, with clients rappelling down waterfalls up to 18 metres. It's marketed as beginner-friendly, with the caveat that you can't be badly afraid of heights.
π ΏοΈ Three in Four Cars Turned Away. About 75 per cent of cars trying to park at the Lake Louise lakeshore turn around empty. The 400-space lot fills by 8 a.m.; the area sees 9,000 visitors a day.
π€οΈ The warm streak continues before a sharp cool-down hits - Thursday holds a mix of sun and cloud at 26Β°C, Friday goes fully sunny and hits a warm 28Β°C, and Saturday stays bright at 27Β°C. Enjoy the heat while it lasts; Sunday's temps take a real tumble. Full Forecast Here

π» Grizzly Bear Refuge Tour with Lunch - Boo the grizzly forages across a 20-acre mountainside enclosure near Golden, and the full day takes in Yoho's Takakkaw Falls and Emerald Lake too. Ten hours door to door, lunch included.
