There is a window at Johnston Canyon, and it shuts earlier than most people expect. The buses and the unhurried arrive at roughly the same time in the late morning. From then until well past lunch, watch this video to see what happens.

Lake Louise is further down that same road. Parks Canada's survey report raises the idea of a booking system for parking at Upper Lake Louise, along with a cap on commercial shuttles. Three in four vehicles that tried last summer were sent back down.

For anyone not keen to test either, the half-day trip out of Banff and Canmore covers both lakes with an hour and twenty minutes at each, and no parking to negotiate.

🚗 Lake Louise Eyes Parking Reservations. Parks Canada's survey report points to a booking system for parking at Upper Lake Louise, plus limits on commercial shuttles. In summer 2025, 75 per cent of vehicles were turned away.

⛑️ Three Soldiers Injured in Crevasse Fall. A Canadian Armed Forces rope team fell about 20 metres into a crevasse on the Athabasca Glacier during a rescue training exercise in Jasper. All three were flown to hospital.

🚌 Skip the parking hunt. The hop-on-hop-off bus covers Johnston Canyon, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and the Lake Louise gondola, with a guaranteed seat between stops and no guide rushing you along. Details here.

🚠 Jasper SkyTram - Whistler’s Mountain's shoulder sits just seven and a half minutes above the valley floor, aboard the longest, highest tramway in Canada. The boardwalk at 2,263 metres gives six mountain ranges, with the true summit another 1.4km on for keen hikers.

🌄 Moraine Lake Sunrise or Sunset Tour - Choose sunrise or sunset - both skip the Parks Canada shuttle by driving straight from Banff or Canmore, timed to reach the Rockpile before crowds or the stars come out. Three hours of lakeside time, with hot drinks and blankets included.

🍂 Banff Larch Valley Hike - Each autumn the Subalpine Larches along this trail turn gold for a few short weeks, rewarding 565 metres of climbing with views over the Valley of the Ten Peaks. Lunch, trekking poles, and a stop at Moraine Lake are included.
