Stoney Trail picked up a new entry in this week's bear report - a grizzly bluff charge, now part of the full list of warnings and closures across Banff, Kananaskis and the mountain parks, updated Saturday at noon.

Kananaskis has technically returned to normal, with the State of Local Emergency lifted, but that is not the same as reopened. A number of backcountry campgrounds and trails remain closed, including Highway 742 and Powderface Trail, so check before you drive out that way.

⛷️ Sunshine Pass Prices Jump July 6th. The 26/27 season pass covers summer hiking through mid-winter powder days, but only at current pricing for two more days.

🚧 Kananaskis Emergency Lifted, Recovery Ongoing. The State of Local Emergency has ended, but numerous backcountry campgrounds and trails stay closed, including full closures on Highway 742 and Powderface Trail.

🏛️ Banff Park Museum Marks Historic Places Day. The museum hosts guided tours and arts and crafts on July 11th, honouring citizen scientist Norman Sanson. Activities run 9:30 am to 5:00 pm; all ages welcome; crafts included.

If Banff Avenue has lost its appeal, a three-hour guided walk trades it for quiet trails, geothermal springs, and a couple of waterfalls most first-time visitors never find, with wildlife spotted along the way more often than not.

🏔️ Sunshine Meadows Guided Hike - Skip the steep climbs and let the gondola do the work, then wander 12km past three alpine lakes on the Continental Divide. This guided hike takes in wildflowers, larches or golden autumn colour, depending on when you go.

🚣 Jasper Family Rafting Trip - An hour on the glacier-fed Athabasca through five sets of gentle Class 2 rapids, with elk and eagles along the banks. Join this rafting trip - wetsuits included, and it's suited to ages five and up.

🥾 How hard is the Tunnel Mountain hike? It is an easy-to-moderate trail suitable for most fitness levels, making it one of the most accessible hikes in Banff for first-timers and families.
