Lake Louise may not stay a drive-up-and-hope destination for much longer. Parks Canada has wrapped its final public engagement, with parking reservations and reduced vehicle access under consideration. The precedent is not encouraging for drivers: before Moraine Lake closed to cars, 85 per cent were turned away.

One way around the parking question entirely is the Bow Valley Parkway on an e-bike, followed by the short hike to Johnston Canyon's Lower Falls and a shuttle ride home. No circling the lot, no early alarm to beat someone else to it.

In Golden, September 26 brings Golden Tails Gathering - Golden Retrievers arriving from across Western Canada, proceeds to three rescue charities, and a closing attempt to hold 200 dogs still long enough for one photograph. Results may vary.

After a day of any of it, the rooftop hot pools at Hotel Canoe & Suites do the job, and the sauna is there if the weather turns.

Combine two very different Banff experiences. A relaxed e-bike ride through Vermilion Lakes and along the Bow Valley Parkway, then stretch your legs on the walk to Johnston Canyon's Lower Falls. Afterwards, simply hop on the shuttle back to Banff.

🐕 Golden Retrievers Take Over Golden. Golden Tails Gathering brings Goldens from across Western Canada to town on September 26, with proceeds to three rescue charities. It closes with The Big Sit - up to 200 dogs holding still for one photo.

🔥 BC State of Emergency Ends. The province lifted its wildfire emergency declaration on August 27, though existing evacuation orders and alerts are unaffected and fire risk stays elevated. The emergency powers it granted were never used.

🐻 Canmore Bears Are Following Berries. A black bear moved through Eagle Terrace backyards on August 25, with WildSmart pointing to dogwood berries in residential neighbourhoods. Letting a bear feed from your fruit tree carries a $1,000 fine.

🏔️ Hiker Dies on Tent Ridge. A woman was found dead in Kananaskis Country on Monday, after Kananaskis Mountain Rescue conducted an overnight ground search. It is the fifth hiking-related death in the region since June.

🌦️ A cool, showery Sunday gives way to a warm sunny run through the week - Sunday brings a mix of sun and cloud with a thunderstorm risk, dipping to 15°C, before Monday clears out fully sunny at 21°C, and Tuesday climbs further to a warm 24°C. 🐻 The Rockwall's Resident Grizzly. A mother grizzly and two cubs are seen almost daily on Kootenay's Rockwall trail without incident. This week, a quiet hiker surprised them at five feet. The whole encounter lasted under a minute.

🌄 Moraine Lake Sunrise or Sunset and Stargazing Tour - Pick your hour: arrive 45 minutes before first light, or stay for the shift from golden hour into stargazing with a telescope. Either way, you get three hours at the lake, plus blankets and hot drinks.

🚠 Banff Gondola Ride - Eight minutes up Sulphur Mountain gets you a boardwalk along the ridge to Sanson's Peak and views over six mountain ranges. Your ticket also covers the free Roam Route 1 bus from town, which beats hunting for parking.

🍂 Larch Valley Guided Hike with Transfers - Golden larches only hold for a couple of weeks each autumn. This eight-hour day handles the Moraine Lake transport, then climbs 8.8km of switchbacks below Mount Temple and Eiffel Peak with poles provided.

📅 What time of year is Moraine Lake open to visitors? The lake is accessible from roughly June through mid-October - the road is closed to all traffic, including shuttles, outside of that window.

🍂 When is the best time to walk Policeman's Creek Trail? The trail is open year-round and beautiful in every season - early morning visits tend to be quieter, with the best light for photos.
