Hi Everyone! Here's What’s Happening This Week!
Banff counted 128,084 vehicles over the August long weekend, up 2 per cent on last year. Roam ridership rose 11 per cent in the same period, and Mountain Avenue traffic fell 13 per cent. People are still driving here. They are just leaving the car once they arrive.
Bryson DeChambeau played the Banff Springs course over the weekend, shot six under, and posted a video that passed a million views in a day. He now has it second in the world, behind Cypress Point in California.
If the parking situation above sounds like a reason to leave the car alone for an afternoon, the hour-long horseback ride along the Bow River starts a short way from town and needs no riding experience at all. It follows the river near Cave and Basin at a walking pace, which is the right speed for looking at things, and it has you back in Banff in time for dinner. This is the one we point visiting family at when they have half a day and no plan.
For the night part, Skyridge Glamping sits in a dark pocket of Kananaskis, far enough from the highway that the sky actually does what it is supposed to. Every cabin has glass from floor to ceiling, so the stargazing happens from bed, without the usual business of standing in a field in a coat waiting for your eyes to adjust.

This is the one we send visiting family on when they've only got an afternoon spare. An hour beside the Bow River near Cave and Basin, no riding experience required, and you're back in town in time for dinner.
🏔️ Fresh from the Rockies
⛳ DeChambeau Ranks Banff Springs Second. The pro golfer's video from Banff Springs Golf Course passed a million views in a day. He shot six under, met the wildlife bins, and put the course behind California's Cypress Point.
🚗 More Cars In, Fewer Crossing River. Banff counted 128,084 vehicles over the August long weekend, up 2 per cent. But Bow River Bridge traffic fell 7 per cent and Mountain Avenue 13 per cent. Roam ridership rose 11 per cent.
🧊 Watch a Glacier Disappear Indoors. The Columbia Icefield Centre's Glacier Gallery now runs projections across a 3D model showing the icefield shrinking. The real thing is retreating just outside the window, more slowly.
🚂 Rocky Mountaineer Adds Fairmont Package. A new 10-day Rockies Refined itinerary for 2027 pairs GoldLeaf rail travel with Fairmont Gold rooms in Vancouver, Lake Louise, Banff and Calgary. Two of the ten days are actually on the train.
🏍️ Jasper Gets an Early Wake-Up Call. About 140 bikes from The Rolling Barrage, a coast-to-coast ride for veterans and first responders with PTSD, pull into the Legion at 8 a.m. on August 19.
🏔️ Abbot Pass Hut Legacy Plans Released. Parks Canada has published its engagement results on remembering the stone shelter dismantled in 2022. The 1922 date stone will be displayed somewhere reachable, unlike the hut, which sat at 2,925 metres.
☀️ Sunshine's on the way back and smoke-free for now - Friday brings a mostly cloudy day with a chance of showers at 16°C, Saturday clears to a mix of sun and cloud at 21°C, and Sunday goes fully sunny at a warm 23°C. This showery day delivered on the forecast for once, and clearer, warmer days follow right behind it. Full Forecast Here
