Hi Everyone! Here's What’s Happening This Week!
A black bear at Rampart Creek Campground took food stored beside a tent in a bag sold as bear-resistant, then came back later when the site was empty. Several black bears are working the area at the moment. If your food storage plan relies on the label rather than the locker, this is the week to rethink it.
At Grassi Lakes, conservation officers have charged thirteen people for entering the closed area. Crews are still reducing rockfall risk after June's Highway 742 slide, and the work is expected to run to mid-August, weather permitting.
If you would rather watch wildlife from a vehicle than from your tent, the dusk tour builds each night's route around that day's sightings, with stops at Lake Minnewanka, Bow Falls and the Mt. Norquay lookout.
And for anyone who prefers to sleep above the treeline instead of beside it, Sunshine Mountain Lodge is reached only by a 20-minute gondola ride, with alpine meadows and glacial lakes on the doorstep.
Elsewhere: a record quarter, a court challenge over bridges, and three days of sun at 27°C.
