Hi Everyone! Here's Whatโ€™s Happening This Week!

Sunshine Village's upper mountain is sitting at 273 centimetres of snow as of this week, with Lake Louise close behind at 245. More snow is forecast for April 7-9, and Sunshine doesn't close until May 18. If you've been putting off a spring ski day, the conditions are giving you less reason to wait.

When the skis eventually go back in storage, the Canmore Folk Music Festival is a reasonable next date to put in the calendar. It runs August 1-3, and volunteer applications are open now - nearly 700 people help keep it running each year, and the trade is a weekend pass plus a late-night party after the main stage on Sunday and Monday.

For something between now and August, the Johnston Canyon E-Bike and Hike tour covers Vermilion Lakes and the Bow Valley Parkway before finishing with a walk through the canyon itself. Half a day, no logistics to sort, and the e-bikes mean you're not exhausted before you reach the canyon.

There is plenty happening this week. Dive into the event listings below, or check out the detailed events page on our website.

When travellers on TripAdvisor rank a hotel as the number one rated place to stay in Banff, itโ€™s usually worth a closer look. In this case, a big part of the appeal is location. Peaks Hotel & Suites is less than a minute from Banff Avenue, so youโ€™re right in the centre of town, with restaurants, cafรฉs, and shops all within easy walking distance.

Despite being so central, the hotel itself feels calm. You can step straight out into town, then come back to somewhere that feels quiet and relaxed at the end of the day. Everything is set up to keep your stay simple, from contact-free check-in and phone access to your room to underground parking if youโ€™re driving. You also have access to the pool, hot tub, and steam room at Banff Park Lodge just across the street.

๐Ÿ”๏ธ Fresh from the Rockies

๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Banff's weather this weekend has the plot twists of a bad novel. Sunday is grey and undecided with a 30% chance of flurries or rain showers at +7ยฐC. Monday steals the show with a mix of sun and cloud and a sizzling +12ยฐC. Tuesday brings it all crashing back down with rain or snow at +5ยฐC - classic Rockies. Full forecast here.

๐ŸŽฟ Banff's Spring Snowpack Runs Deep. Sunshine Village's upper mountain is sitting at 273 centimetres as of this week, with Lake Louise close behind at 245. More snow is forecast for April 7-9, and Sunshine doesn't close until May 18.

๐ŸŽถ Canmore Folk Fest Needs You. The festival runs August 1-3 and is recruiting volunteers now - in exchange for a weekend pass, a T-shirt, and a late-night party after Sunday and Monday's main stage. Nearly 700 people volunteer each year to keep it running.

๐Ÿšก Seven Minutes to the Alpine. The Jasper SkyTram reopens April 15, lifting visitors to the summit of Whistlerโ€™s Mountain for trails, snowshoes, and views that take considerably longer to reach on foot. Dogs are allowed on board.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Parks Canada Plans Jasper Burn. A prescribed fire near Mina Lake - in a 29-hectare unit called Razorback, one kilometre northwest of town - could be lit in early April if conditions allow. More than 100 hectares of forest were already thinned over the winter to prepare.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Offline Maps, Half the Price. AllTrails Plus is 50% off until April 7 - use code APRIL26 to grab the deal. Useful anywhere, but especially in the Rockies, where cell service tends to disappear around the same time the trail does.

โญ Most Popular Last Issue

๐Ÿ”๏ธ Skip the logistics, enjoy the views. Moraine Lake has no private vehicle access, and Lake Louise parking is nearly impossible in peak season - this half-day tour handles it all, giving you 90 minutes at each stunning lake to walk, explore, and take it all in. Book your spot here.

๐Ÿ”๏ธ Where to Stay in Jasper

Jasper gets a fraction of Banff's visitor numbers, which is either a selling point or a warning sign depending on what you're after - the town is quieter, the park is less crowded, and the accommodation options reflect that. These three cover the range well.

๐ŸŒ๏ธ Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge - The lodge sits on Lac Beauvert outside town, which means you're trading walking-distance convenience for a proper resort setting with its own golf course, spa, and lakeside cabins. It's the kind of place where staying in is genuinely part of the experience. Read The Reviews And Book

๐ŸŒฒ Pyramid Lake Lodge - Ten minutes from town on the road to Pyramid Lake, this one earns its place on the strength of its location alone - direct lake access, fewer people, and the kind of setting that's hard to find once you're already inside the park. A good choice if you want Jasper without being in the middle of it. Read The Reviews And Book

๐Ÿจ The Crimson Jasper - Right in the heart of Jasper townsite, which means walkable access to restaurants and shops without needing to move the car every time. A practical base for people who are here to explore the park. Read The Reviews And Book

โ“Your Questions Answered

๐Ÿ”๏ธ What is the difference between staying in Banff vs Canmore? Banff is a resort town built around tourism, sitting inside the national park, while Canmore is a real working mountain town just outside the park boundary - same scenery, very different atmosphere.

๐Ÿ‚ When is the best time to walk Policeman's Creek Trail? The trail is open year-round and beautiful in every season - early morning visits tend to be quieter, with the best light for photos.

๐ŸŽ‰ Are there unique food experiences in Banff beyond just eating out? Yes - Banff offers food and drink experiences that go well beyond restaurants, from guided tastings to outdoor cookouts in the mountains.

๐ŸšฃActivities You Might Enjoy

๐ŸŒŠ Banff Thermal Waters Walk - The Cave and Basin is where Canada's national park system began in 1885. This three-hour guided walk takes you beyond the visitor centre into Sundance Canyon, past hidden waterfalls and thermal springs most people drive straight past.

๐Ÿ”๏ธ Icefields Parkway Five Lakes Tour - Eleven hours covering Lake Louise, Peyto Lake, Bow Lake, and the Columbia Icefield - the Parkway's headline acts in one go, without the parking stress. Worth booking the glacier activities in advance if you want them included.

๐Ÿ›ถ Banff Big Canoe Tour - A voyageur-style canoe on the Bow River, guided by people who know the park's history. Ninety minutes upstream and back, suitable for ages two upwards. The lemonade at the end is a nice touch.
